Welcome to Bowl of Delicious! My name is Elizabeth Lindemann (she/her), and I’m the food blogger, recipe developer, and photographer behind the blog.
What started in 2013 as a casual hobby and side hustle that I worked on during the nights and weekends when I was a high school art teacher has grown into a full-blown business!
I’m now a full-time food blogger, and Bowl of Delicious reaches millions of people per month all around the world with delicious, easy recipes that are made with real food and are created with busy people in mind. Bowl of Delicious has been recognized in the top 2% of independent online publishers at the largest publishing network on the internet.
I’m a native New Englander who, after living around the country for over a decade in Maryland, New Orleans, and Austin, TX, now resides in Rhode Island just outside Providence. A lot of my recipes are inspired by the places I’ve lived and by my Greek and Norwegian heritage. I live with Zach (my husband), my two daughters Zoey and Eleanor (who are just 15 months apart…eek!), and two cats, Oscar and Olive.
Fun Facts About Me
- I’ll eat ANYTHING. I once ate guinea pig when I was traveling in Peru. Snails, weird eggs, raw things… I’ll try anything once!
- I have my master’s degree in Architecture. Then, I was an art teacher, then, a full-time food blogger! You can read more about this journey and how they relate in this alumni write-up from the University of Maryland.
- I participated in an archeological dig in areas around Pompeii when I was in college.
- I’m one of the few people under the age of 73 that loves black licorice.
Real Food for Busy People
Teaching was HARD. It was emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually exhausting. It wasn’t long before I realized that when I took the time to cook and eat real food, I felt more energetic, less stressed, and able to manage my life better.
I started learning how to cook from scratch using “real food,” that is- unprocessed, wholesome, nutritious ingredients.
And along the way, I figured out a myriad of hacks and shortcuts to make home cooking fast, easy, and doable, even with a high-stress job (and now, as a busy mom who owns her own business and has two toddlers running around!).
Bowl of Delicious is a place where I can share my recipes made with real food for busy people.
What kinds of recipes you’ll find on Bowl of Delicious
Bowl of Delicious specializes in quick and easy recipes, Instant Pot and slow cooker recipes, one-pot meals, and make-ahead or freezer-friendly meals. And they’re mostly all family-friendly, especially recently!
You’ll also find some minimalist five-ingredient recipes, as well as budget-friendly recipes. My goal is to make home cooking less stressful for even the busiest lifestyles. Like teachers. And moms.
And finally, the recipes on Bowl of Delicious are made with real food. You won’t find any processed ingredients on here, besides the occasional use of white flour and sugar!
Bowl of Delicious’s recipes have been featured all across the internet, including on Buzzfeed, Greatist, Taste of Home, Delish, Parade, Country Living, Good Housekeeping, and many more. You can read more about my media features on my press page!
Elizabeth has also been featured on the Dishing with Delishes podcast, where she discusses a little more about her business food blogging and how she got into it.
What else is on Bowl of Delicious?
Occasionally, I’ll also write about my tricks and tips to making cooking easier, cheaper, faster, and more convenient. Like my favorite hack for making easy peel hard boiled eggs (seriously, it’s mind-blowing) and these ways to shop for real food on a budget.
I also have a few resources for bloggers or people interested in learning more about food blogging. Be sure to check out my guide on How to Start A Blog and take a look at some Food Blog Income Reports from when I started to actually make money from blogging!
My Cooking and Eating Philosophy + Influences
I’ve always loved food and eating. I love how it tastes, I love how it brings people together, and I love how it has huge cultural and regional significance.
Maybe it’s because I grew up with a Greek family that cooked, and ate, a LOT of delicious Greek Recipes.
As far as eating “real food” in my personal life, I try to stick to the 80/20 rule. 80% of the time, I eat whole, real ingredients. The other 20% you might catch me snacking on a peanut butter cup, eating frozen waffles, or diving face first into a bag of kettle cooked jalapeño chips. Because I’m human, and otherwise, I would drive myself crazy trying to “eat perfectly” all the time!
I believe that healthy eating and cooking at home should help relieve stress, not contribute to it. And I think that for most people, sticking to anything 100% of the time can often contribute to stress.
My biggest inspirations for eating real food come from Lisa Leake’s 100 Days of Real Food blog and from Michael Pollan’s In Defense of Food. Go check them out!

Wondering if you have ever frozen your ‘ Easy Meyer Lemon Bars’? I so, what is the best way to wrap them.
Terry
Elizabeth Lindemann
Great question! Yes! I would recommend flash freezing them by placing them on a rimmed baking sheet with some space in between each bar and freezing for 1-2 hours, until they’re frozen. Then, you can wrap them each individually in plastic wrap and store in an airtight container or zip top bag, and take them out individually as you want them. That way, they won’t freeze together or smush onto the plastic wrap before they’re frozen. Thanks so much for asking that- I’m going to add it to the text of the post now!

This is great for senior citizens too. Yes some recipes I eat for a week. Sometimes get them frozen.
I’m 80/20 “Plant Based Diet” one problem ? I like eggs and cheese! Very few processed foods. I use honey or maple surip (being from New England) and some times stevia for sweeteners. Oh I do still have a lobster, fried clam, scallops once a year.
It was great reading about you. I don’t know how you find time to everything. I Brough up three children (all turned out great) and now have four Great Grandchildren. Proud to say they are being taught manors and all those nice things so they are a joy to be around!

Aw, thanks so much!!

I am a mom of a son with some special needs and it seems like I am never home. I am a single mom and have a full plate. Too tired sometimes to think about healthier options. I am stumped regarding lunch…the mid day meal. How can I put things together for lunch other than sandwiches? Things that are nutritious. I look at recipes all the time online, but its to find the time to actually SIT and plan a week worth of meals. Any suggestions? I want to get my son away from sugar too…as much as possible.
Elizabeth Lindemann
Hi Jane! What an amazing mom you are! Here’s my short answer: I almost never plan lunches. When I do, usually I make a big salad of some sort- a hearty one, not a lettuce one. Something like a pasta salad, or chicken salad (and I’ll just eat the chicken salad over a bed of greens or with crackers if I don’t want it as a sandwich). But mostly, I just make sure I cook a TON for dinner and eat the leftovers for lunches! If I’m cooking something like soup, I often double it and either freeze it or eat it all week for leftovers. And if I’m being honest, I often have dinner leftovers for breakfast, too! When I do take the time to cook, I try and make it worth my while by making as much as I can, as long as I know it will hold up for a few days and I’ll actually eat it. If you’re looking for a really great resource on well-planned lunches, I’d suggest taking a look at the blog 100 Days of Real Food. She shares the lunches her kids take to school and how she preps them and everything. That might be helpful! Here’s an example: https://www.100daysofrealfood.com/school-lunch-roundup/

So about six months ago, after twenty-eight years of living with type-1 diabetes, I got a pancreatic transplant! Which means that after nearly thirty years, I can finally do stuff like eat cake and ice cream without becoming terribly ill and without taking multiple shots! I’m still getting used to living like a normal non-diabetic human being again; it takes a moment of thought before I take a bite of bread or fruit, or spread grape jelly on my toast, without mentally going “Hang on, did I take my shot for that?” I mean, I haven’t gotten to live in that sort of total freedom since I was a ten-year-old girl! However, I welcome any and all recipes you might post on this website– I’m already collecting quite a large collection of recipes, which I will go on and print once the mass of files gets big enough!
Continue having fun cooking and eating with your family!
Elizabeth

Yeah, I found what I’m looking for…inspiration to create flavor-full and healthy foods! As a busy family, we had gotten caught up in the WI midwestern cycle of dairy/wheat/meat with not much real goodness. Thanks with all of my heart. Can’t wait to start with the coconut date balls and vegan banana choc ice cream. You rock!!!
Elizabeth
Aw, what a nice comment! Thank you so much, hope you find some helpful recipes on here! You’ll LOVE the coconut date balls. Yum yum.

Just added you to my email list! Hope you enjoy :-)
Les
I have never been much of a cook, but with your recipes it is so easy! I don’t have to rely on everything being from a can or jar anymore!
Elizabeth
Aw that’s so nice of you to say! Thank you!
MJO
I have begun a (mostly) plant-based diet, for medical reasons. After trying many substitutes that don’t taste anything like meat, dairy, eggs or soy I retreated to the non-meat proteins I enjoyed in the past. After editing out the mac and cheese, American Chop Suey and omelets, my former favorites were reduced to twice-a-week fish, split pea soup, black bean salad and chili (now meatless). When I read that your baby loves the black beans and rice with, cilantro and lime I knew it had to be good. And it is! Better still, I see there are many more recipes here to add variety and taste to my new regime. I’ll continue to search your blog and look forward to your emails -Sign me up!
Elizabeth
I’m so happy you enjoyed the black beans and rice recipe! I love how simple that one is :-) Hope you find some other good things on my blog to make! If you liked that one, I recommend this spicy black beans and quinoa.
Elizabeth
Also, I went ahead and added you to my email list! You should start getting them this coming Sunday :-)

I am recovering from an AI (autoimmune disorder).
My tolerance to certain foods like eggs and mayonnaise, and maybe vinegar, except in small amounts. Processed foods are really tough on me, and often translate to poorer health, so I am looking for Good tasting foods that will nourish me too.
I can’t wait to begin trying some of your recipes.
Thank you for posting these for others to benefit from.
Elizabeth

I am so impressed about these. I am going to try these healthy recipes more especially they are easy to make and stress free. Most of the time when people are from work they are tired and feel like going to bed. But since the recipes are easy, one can even cook after hectic hours of work.
